Why not add in the Gangam Style Dance to your reception!
The other night I was watching the season finale of Dancing with the Stars, and the Gangam Style dance routine appeared! It was funny and unique to see. I never seen this popular South Asian you tube Gangam Style video, so I checked it out to see what the hype is all about. Oddly, I researched what does this song mean, as a result the Korean song talks about “the perfect girlfriend who knows when to be refined and when to get wild”. I laughed how silly the dance was but definitely entertaining. It was “cheesy” dance moves including panda and kangaroo moves, horse trots (pretending to ride a horse), moving into a legs-shuffling side gallop.
We have the Electric Slide, Cha-Cha, YMCA, and the Cupid Shuffle group dances to add to a wedding reception-why not add in the Gangam Style dance! If you have a guestlist that loves to party and loves to laugh, this can be a great dance to add in your reception.

Two weeks ago, Hurricane Sandy came at a full force with high wind speeds and tides that damaged homes and left survivors without power in the Tri-State Area. During these 2 weeks it was a tough time to do anything, such as go to work, help a friend/families in need because of no power in the subway system, no gas, and more- we are still experiencing challenging times.
As a result from the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, we remained resilient New Yorkers full of strength and hope. We kicked Hurricane Sandy to the curb and we are moving our bodies! How to set up an affordable Candy Buffet?

Food Trucks for Weddings!
Are you lovely couples enjoying your summer? Almost the summer is coming to an end. My Bridal Budget had the opportunity to coordinate a fun and unique wedding at the Queens County Farm located in Little Neck, NY.
Instead, of a formal catered dinner at a reception, the laid back couple hired Food Trucks for their wedding reception. Yes! Food Trucks! The Food Trucks you see in the NYC streets, such as dessert and ethnic food trucks. Food Trucks have been a popular trend in NYC for several years, and now have entered into the wedding industry.
Korilla BBQ served Kimchee Chicken, Pork and Beef Tacos, FritesNMeats served Burgers and Veggie Burgers with French Fries, and for dessert-Andy Italian Ices served all flavored Italian Ices and Iced Coffee, including unique flavors such as Canolli ices, and lastly decadent Red Velvet Cupcakes from Brooklyn Cupcakes.
The guests had a blast and it felt like a BBQ but with a creative twists. Guests placed their orders at the trucks and picked up their dinners in a white “doggie bag”. Indeed, it was an informal affair and unforgettable way to celebrate the big day!

Garter Placement Twist
We all know about the Garter Toss/Garter Placement traditional game – right? After the Groom tosses the garter to the single men, a man catches the garter to place the garter on the Bouquet Winner’s thigh or leg- which is a single woman.
How about twisting this old tradition into a fun joke?
Blindfold the Garter Toss Winner, and have the Groom sit on the chair. The Groom will raise his pants up to his knee; take off his shoe and sock- so he mislead the winner that it is a woman. Spin the Blindfolded Garter toss winner in circles, and then lead him to the Groom. The Garter toss winner will get excited due to the mystery of who is this “woman”, as he puts the garter on the Groom’s leg- take off his blindfold- SURPRISE! He will see that it’s the Groom! It’s a funny joke that family and friends will always cherish this humorous moment!

Inside Scoop on Relationship Coaching- How to define a healthy a marriage?
All the details that go into a wedding such as the venue, flowers, dress and more, we tend to forget about the relationship aspect. It’s not always about the “day”; it’s really about the marriage.
As a wedding planner, I witness couple’s behaviors when they make decisions on their budget, guestlist, menu- it can be a joyous moment or a stressful unhappy moment. Often two questions arise as I witness a couples’ moments, what are the ingredients to define a healthy marriage? What does it take to be in a happy relationship?
Here is couple of tips-
-Enter the marriage 100% committed-without the divorce option
-Disagreements are normal; they don’t mean the end of a relationship
-Focus on what binds you, not what separates you
-Take time out when there are arguments or fights
-Examine your intent
-Plan a date night =)
In addition, it’s always great to receive advice from a relationship coach. Jackie Janiec is a relationship coach for women in New York City. Jackie believes that happiness lies within and to truly love and know ourselves before we can embrace a relationship and/or enter into a marriage. She believes that in any relationship, we need to forgive, breath, and let go. “We have the opportunity to rewrite our story, which is the story of love” as Jackie continues.

There may be a bombardment of emails in your inbox regarding wedding plans from your venues, vendors, and more. You may just want to toss your smartphone at the end of a hectic workday between personal, work and wedding emails.
You want make sure you and your fiancé receive all emails pertaining to your wedding plans in your personal email address, but at times you mistakenly delete one or two important messages.

You can create a wedding email address for your wedding inquiries only- give this email address to your venue, vendors and bridal party, so they can use this email address. 2) Planning a wedding on a budget is key, but making sure you have an upbeat, professional and reliable entertainment is important. Hire a DJ and an Emcee upon selecting your desired package. Do not hire a one-man show. You need an Emcee that is going to coordinate with the crowd and a DJ that can only focus on the music from their technical savvy systems. We have great DJ vendors for you to fall in love with so stop your search because hiring a day of coordinator or a planner from your team; we will only refer you to the best in the industry.
3) If you are not hiring a DJ, instead you are creating a playlist on your IPOD- make sure you have dance music such as, upbeat music for all your guests to dance. If you create dance set that is mainly slow tunes, guests will depart after dinner.
4) Always work on your seating chart a month in advance before your wedding- which means setting an early RSVP date to avoid delay. The seating chart can seem as an easy task, but it can be difficult task because it requires to make sure the chemistry is enjoyable at the table such as if guests can get along and that will talk with each other (even though they may not know each other). Also a seating chart is helpful for buffet dinners to avoid crowded buffet lines. It’s all about structure and elegance!
5) Always request a final mock trial of your centerpiece and bouquet from your florist. You don’t want to be surprised if your florist brings you the wrong florals that you didn’t ask for , most importantly you don’t want to overpay your florist and notice that’s not the exact the arrangement you requested.
6) Always request a final proof of your invitation before you send out your invitations, there can be a wrong date, incorrect spelling of your venue, wrong color of your invitation, and, wrong font. It doesn’t matter if it’s a reputable invitation company or printing company-costly mistakes can occur if you do not double check your invitations
7) Just because you have a park nearby-don’t assume you can take wedding photos at your leisure for an hour. Most parks in NYC require a photo permit to use their property for photography sessions, therefore a photography timeline is essential to coordinate at what time you need to use the park. How a yoga practice can keep you calm during wedding season?
As most of my clients know I do have a yoga practice on the mat and off the mat. Often, I always get the popular question, how are you a wedding planner dealing with so many weddings, personalities, timelines, checklists all at the same time-how do you handle it all? The answer is Yoga.
Yoga is a connection between the mind, body, and spirit. It stimulates balance and rewards your body sense of healing, calmness, and confidence. That is how I can multitask and still be in the present moment with each client’s wedding. My yoga practice is like a daily cup of coffee- either through yoga asana, mediation, or focusing on my breath. It definitely keeps me prepared for the unexpected on a wedding day.
Usually, on a weekly basis I have been top of my wedding blogs on a weekly basis. However, for the past 3 months, I have been offline, due to my decision to go deep within my yoga practice to take the 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training Registered Certificate with Yoga Alliance that began in January through April. Thankfully I graduated and now I can share my practice.

I often hear from brides, I’m so overwhelmed, I have so much to do, I’m so tired, I have 3 more months until the big day and I didn’t lose any weight, I can’t sleep, I can’t breathe, I can’t stop, I’m scared, etc. Does this sound like you?

Service Charge- Is it taxable or not?
That is a good question to ask to your catering company or catering venue because you don’t want to miscalculate or have any surprises when you pay your final bill. Most catering venues charge 20% for service charge, which you are responsible for that cost that covers waiting staff, linens, directional/place cards, any operating venue costs, etc. In New York, tax is applied to the service charge. Most of us go out to restaurants for dinner, most of the time tax is not applied on the gratuity and service charge. However, in catering venues that have large parties, tax is applied on the service charge.
If you are the type that is organized with finances and likes to see the figures in a spreadsheet. Here is an example in how you would calculate your catering bill with taxable service charge:
$9,095 ($85 x 107 adults)
$280 ($35x8vendors)
$385 ($35x11kids)
--------------
$9,760 (subtotal)
$1,952 (service charge-20% x $9,760)
----------------
$11,712 (total)
$1,010.16 (total x Tax 8.625%)
---------------
$12,722.16-Grand Total
The numbers turn out to be a big difference when tax is applied to service charge, therefore please ask the question to your venue –“Is your service charge taxable?” so, you can make sure your budget is accurate.

Gratuities and service charges
Gratuities and tips that a customer leaves voluntarily for the wait staff are not taxable.
Mandatory gratuities are different because they are automatically added onto the bill given to the customer. However, a mandatory gratuity is not taxable if all of these conditions are met:
• the charge is shown separately on the bill,
• the charge is identified as a gratuity, and
• all of the money collected is given to the employees.
If any of these conditions is not met, the mandatory gratuity is taxable along with the rest of the catering bill.
Many caterers bill a service charge on banquets or on parties of more than eight or ten people. Since these charges are not specifically listed as gratuities on the bill or invoice, the service charge is always subject to sales tax.

We live in beautiful New York City with so many parks lavished with trees, spring cherry blossoms, you may be thinking of taking pictures after the ceremony with your bridal party at a park nearby the venue, which is a great idea. However, please be sure you check out the city parks information online because most parks require a permit, which includes a fee to use the park’s grounds.
Some New York City parks charge $100 for 30minutes to take photos, such as the Conservatory Gardens. As well as give yourself ample time to send in an application at least 3 months before the wedding date to ensure avaiblity for a photo session.
Another idea, if you prefer to have your wedding ceremony at a park, there is a ceremony fee that is $400 in some NYC parks such as the Conservatory Gardens. You should file an application to the city parks at least a year before the wedding date to ensure availability.
Be sure to include these fees in your budget, as well as include the time slot in your day of coordination timeline so your photographer/videographer is aware of the time.

Wedding Wines
Last week, I had the opportunity to visit Grapepoint Wines at Greenpoint, Brooklyn, NY, which made its grand opening a month ago. I met with Joanna Zablocki who is the owner of her new wine store that launched a month ago at the Greenpoint Brooklyn community. Joanna has an extensive knowledge about the art of wine. Speaking of art, there will be a free art and wine event on Saturday, March 10, 2012 from 6pm to 9pm.
Grapepoint Wines has an intimate and vibrant ambiance in combination with Joanna’s friendly personality shines throughout her store and to her customers in this community.
In addition, I had the opportunity to interview, regarding on what kind of recommendations for wines for a wedding-

Here are some of my wedding suggestions:
1. Sauvignon Blanc is a super versatile that goes great with Chicken, Vegetables, Seafood and Salads
My pick at the moment would be Yealands Sauvignon Blanc 2011 from Marlborough New Zealand. This Sauv Blanc is outstanding and truly captures the essence of NZ. It’s an expressive bold style of bouquet, bright citrus fruits with hints of passion fruit and guava. AMAZING.
2. Cabernet Sauvigon is one the most popular red wines. It’s a nice hearty wine that goes well with beef and pork dishes.
My pick at the moment would be Amplio Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 from Lodi California. This cab is medium bodied with an approachable style. Hints of blackcurrant, black raspberry and earthiness.
3. A slightly oaked Chardonnay is also a crowd pleaser.
My pick would be the Boschendal Chardonnay 2009 from South Africa; it is round well balanced with notes of citrus and toasted almonds.
4. Valpolicella is also a great choice for red wine. Usually medium bodied, fruit forward and approachable.
My Pick would be Brigaldara Valpolicella 2010 from Veneto Italy. This Valpolicella is incredibly juicy coming from a family owned vineyard that yields a small production. It is medium body with tons of dark fruit. Hints of chocolate and spice. Delicious.

Happy 100th Birthday to Oreos!
March 6th is the 100th anniversary of the iconic Oreo cookie! The Oreo cookie has been such a treat ever since we were kids watching TV dipping the Oreo cookie in our glass of milk. Thoughtful Conclusions about Commitment Deciding Whether to Marry
Most of the time I will blog about wedding planning, fun details, decor, vendor spotlights, however I've came across this great article about commitment from the Daily Om that I think deserves a blog post for you to all read. Love is often cited as the sole prerequisite of a strong and stable married life. However, the decision to get married should be made with the mind and the soul as well as with the heart. Carefully considering whether you truly want to get married, both individually and as a couple, can ensure that if you do choose to marry, your relationship can grow to unimaginable depths.
The decision-making process you employ to determine whether you should marry should be a thoughtful and honest one in which you appraise not only your partner but also yourself. Consider that love and attraction do not guarantee long-term compatibility. If your relationship is not secure, marriage will not make it so. Likewise, if your partner is not as attentive, loving, or kind as you would like, your becoming spouses will not change that. Before you choose to marry, ask yourself whether you and your partner are adept at resolving conflict, can speak openly to one another, and fully respect one another. Your attitudes regarding the nature of marital commitment, children and child rearing, and marital roles may be the same or they may differ. It is your shared responsibility to discuss your similarities and come to agreements regarding your differences that will predict how successful yo! ur future marriage will be. Often times, younger couples rush into marriage just for the wedding dress, the ring, the party, and honeymoon. Would you still be willing to be married if you couldn’t have these things?
Remember that planning a wedding is simple when compared to the intricacies of nurturing a marriage. The honeymoon and nesting period will eventually wear off, and what you are left with is a partner for life. When you work together with your partner, reassure and support one another, and are honest about your feelings regarding marriage, you’ll come to the right decision.

Table names rather than Table numbers
I’m sure you are creating your seating chart, while reviewing table numbers and seating charts. Why not add a twist? Instead of doing traditional table numbers, or using table number stands from your venue- create table names!
Your table names can be originated from places that you and your soon-to-be traveled while you were dating, titles of your favorite songs, title of poems or movie themes
You can frame your engagement photos insert a table name, or create table names in a cardstock and insert it in your floral centerpiece.
It’s fun, its interactive, a great conversation starter amongst your guests, and it is helpful if you have buffet, your emcee can announce the table names rather than say “please table 1 its time for you to be served”- its more polished and elegant to be announced by a table name- like the “Crazy in Love table you will now be served”.
In addition, your placecards will state the table name rather than the table number, so your guests will know where they will be seated.
